Wastenet competition
We entered in a competition for Wastenet where we had to make a superhero out of rubbish and write a description about it. We worked in pairs and here are the photos of our creations. It would be great to win a prize! Amazing work Room 8!

First Aid
On Thursday the 17th of March Room 8 had a visit from Jo (From St Johns). We were lucky enough to have Jo teach a range of first aid techniques that can help to save lives. It was a fabulous learning session which is part of our 'safety' thinking for Term 1.
Here is what we learnt...
DRSABCD
Danger - Check dangers, always put yourself first, even over the patient.
Response - What is your patient doing?
Send for help - 111, others or AED (defibrillator)
Airway - Is this clear
Breathing - Check
CPR
Defibrillator - Should have arrived if it has been sent for
We also learnt how to put people in the recovery position if they were still breathing, but needed some help.
Learning to bandage was also worthwhile. We learnt some great first aid skills from Jo at St Johns.

We learnt to go through DRSABCD on our patients. When we got to C, we practiced CPR on a dummy. We learnt that you need 30 pumps of the heart and 2 breaths and that the song "Row, row, row your boat sung twice is how many pumps to do".

Bre's puppy visit
Bre's Mum brought in two of their beautiful new Labrador puppies to show Room 8. They were both adorable and the Room 8 students enjoyed this immensely.
Assembly
On Friday the 11th of March Room 8 hosted the Assembly. They pretended they were reporters and had a range of situations where they were reporting or performing. Well done Room 8, you all did a fantastic job of running the assembly.
Baden doing karate
We were lucky enough to have Baden show The Room Eight Greats a bit of karate this week.

Rachel Ferguson dance lessons
Each Tuesday for the last few weeks we have had dance lessons with Rachel Ferguson. This is to prepare us for the Southland Festival of Dance which is held early next term. Students who are interesting entering this have filled out the appropriate paperwork and will be getting some more lessons as the festival approaches.

Making potatoes into chips!
We had a treat last week when the Envirogroup cooked up the potatoes that had been dug from the school garden and dispersed them among the school students. YUM!
Garden show
On Friday the 19th of February, Room 8 walked down to the James Cumming Wing in Gore to have a look at the annual 'Garden Show' that the Gore Garden Club puts on each year. The students enjoyed browsing around the amazing displays of flowers, vegetables, sculptures, toys, student creations and much, much more. We were so inspired from the creativity! The students enjoyed seeing the display that the Gore Main Envirogroup had contributed to this event. A highlight was definitely the 1 day old chicks that we all got to see! Check out our pictures...
