Neela

Neela was absent when we undertook the Algebra assessment in class.

Neela is able to read most analogue and digital times.  She seems to understand am and pm within 24 hour time.  She was able to successfully draw a clock and plot her chosen time correctly, with the hands in the correct place (although she did not challenge herself and just chose 11 oclock).  She can solve time problems.

Neela, Preston, Jayden and Ashton worked extremely well together to work out what food they have in their fridges.  Firstly they made a strip graph and then made statements about this graph.  They made a connection to fractions (because there was 4 in their group) and made statements like "3/4 people in the group like carrots".  After that they measured their strip graph into a circle and transformed this into a pie graph.  The size of the strips (i.e. carrots) helped them to measure their slice of pie.  They made more statements about their information off the pie graph and found that they were learning and seeing new things.  They made 2 statements each and supported each other to add detail to these.  To finish they confidently made a computer graph.

Neela was able to construct a couple of 3D polyhedrons.  She was able to confidently identify how many faces and edges there were on her shape.  She became more confident in working out how many vertices (corners) and angles there were after being shown once.

Neela created an amazing symmetrical pattern on the left.  She also designed this tessellating pattern on the right.  She required a bit of support when coloring it in to make sure it was a visual pattern.

Neela and Baden made this 3D geometrical city model.  They firstly made a 2D plan.  The were able to build a range of different 3D shapes (cylinders, pyramids, rectangular prisms etc) and include some simple tessellation, symmetry and shop signage.  They worked extremely well together with very little teacher input after a small disagreement at the beginning (which they worked through).  They did an amazing job!

Powerpoint presentation:  Neela and Leah worked together to make a power-point about fire safety.  The researched their topic, made a plan and then went on to design and present their information to the class.  They worked together very well.  They are learning to present their findings to the class through presentation.  Well done girls.

Here is Neela's speech on healthy eating versus unhealthy eating that she presented in July 2016
