Taine

Taine stated that he began his pattern with 4 stickers and then he added 3 more for each row.  He said that to complete his pattern he was borrowing one more off the previous shape (which is a very clever observation).  When I asked him how many stickers he had altogether he started to use repeated addition 4 + 3 + 3 etc.  I stopped him and told him I wanted him to do it another way.  He then said "11 x 3 = 33 plus the 4 I began with... the answer is 37".  He understood that it was so much quicker to use the multiplication that repeated addition.



Taine is able to read most times on analogue clocks and digital.  He is not yet sure about 24 hour time and how am and pm works with this format.  He is able to solve time related problems and can show his thinking by using a number line.  It is important that he continue to be given time problems to solve to practice this skill.




Ben W, Baden, Taine and Ben dJ worked together to find out what food they have in their fridges.  They had a bit of difficulty working together as a group and the teacher had to intervene several times to re-focus the boys.  Firstly they made a strip graph and then made statements about this graph.  They made a connection to fractions (because there was 4 in their group) and made statements like "3/4 people in the group like carrots".  After that they measured their strip graph into a circle and transformed this into a pie graph.  With support from the teacher they used the size of the strips (i.e. carrots) to measure their slice of pie.  They made more statements about their information off the pie graph and were questioned about the difference  in statements from the strip graph to the pie graph.  To finish they confidently made a computer graph. 


Taine made this 3D polyhedron.  He was able to count up how many faces, edges and vertices (corners) his shape had.  He learnt how to count up how many angles his shape has but will require more teaching with this characteristic.  

Taine enjoyed these patterning activities.  He successfully completed his symmetrical pattern (left) showing that he understands how reflective symmetry works.  Also, he made his tessellating cat pattern and colored it visually in a pattern as well.



Gun danger power-point
Taine and Nicole worked very well together to make an amazing power-point on gun safety.  They researched their topic to get good clear information.  Their power-point was excellent.  Each page indicated a key point with an image.  Well done Taine and Nicole.  Just remember to check your work for errors!  



Taine and Ben worked on this geometrical 3D model.  As you can see their city is quite basic.   They have constructed some 3D models but have not really put a great deal of thought into roading within their city.  I can see the tessellation and symmetrical pattern that they were required to make.  A medium effort boys, but I know you are capable of much better.
