Ben W

Ben knew that his first pattern started with 4 stickers and then each consecutive one after that adds 3 stickers.  He counted 18 groups so went 18 x 3 (10x3 =30 & 8x3 =24, 30+24 =54).  Ben W found this pattern easy to create.

Ben is able to read some analogue and digital times correctly, but he has some confusions about minute hand and hour hand.  He will read 5 past 12 as 1 oclock because the hands are pointing to the 12 and the 1.  It is important that he be given lots of opportunities to read the time and see where the hands are situated.  He seems to understand 24 hour time and the am and pm within these times.  His clock that he drew was rough and he had two 2's and two 3's on his clock.  He is able to solve some time related problems but needs to slow down and not rush because he can often be incorrect.

Ben W, Baden, Taine and Ben dJ worked together to find out what food they have in their fridges.  They had a bit of difficulty working together as a group and the teacher had to intervene several times to re-focus the boys.  Firstly they made a strip graph and then made statements about this graph.  They made a connection to fractions (because there was 4 in their group) and made statements like "3/4 people in the group like carrots".  After that they measured their strip graph into a circle and transformed this into a pie graph.  With support from the teacher they used the size of the strips (i.e. carrots) to measure their slice of pie.  They made more statements about their information off the pie graph and were questioned about the difference  in statements from the strip graph to the pie graph.  To finish they confidently made a computer graph.

Ben shows a good understanding of geometry.  He build this complicated 3D shape and was able to identify how many angles, vertices (corners), edges and faces this shape had.  Great geometry.

Ben and Ashton worked alongside each other to complete these amazing tessellating bird patterns and symmetrical designs.  They both really enjoyed designing their geometrical designs and wanted to do more.  They both found them easy to do.  Great  geometrical work Ashton and Ben!

Jodi and Ben made this 3D geometrical city model.  They firstly made a 2D plan.  The were able to build a range of different 3D shapes (cylinders, pyramids, rectangular prisms etc) and include some simple tessellation and symmetry.  They worked extremely well together with very little teacher input.  As you can see they wanted to create a 3D Egyptian town which was different to everybody else.  Well done Jodi and Ben, this is very authentic.

Power-point presentation:  Ben W and Ashton worked together on a project!  They had to research a life safety topic and they chose drugs or medicine.  They worked hard to gather their ideas and they made a plan.  After they planned they began work on their power-point presentation.  They done a great job working together to create their power-point.  They presented their findings to the class.  Great work boys....

5/7/16 Speech:  Here is a video of Ben's speech about Beavers.
