Preston

Preston explained that his pattern started with 9 and then he added 8 more stickers each time to get the total.  He started calculating 9+8+8+8 but when questioned about this technique used multiplication.  He first said 9x6,... then "NO" 8x6 =48 plus 1 to get 49.  Preston found this pattern quite difficult to build but was able to achieve it with some assistance from the teacher.
Preston was able to complete this time activity very quickly.  He can read most analogue and digital times correctly.  He forgot to write whether the digital times were in am or pm, but showed an understanding of am/pm in class discussions.  He correctly drew a clock and the time on it and then went on to successfully solve time problems.  Instead of drawing a number line to demonstrate how he had solved the time problems, he verbalized his strategy (see sheet above).

Neela, Preston, Jayden and Ashton worked extremely well together to work out what food they have in their fridges.  Firstly they made a strip graph and then made statements about this graph.  They made a connection to fractions (because there was 4 in their group) and made statements like "3/4 people in the group like carrots".  After that they measured their strip graph into a circle and transformed this into a pie graph.  The size of the strips (i.e. carrots) helped them to measure their slice of pie.  They made more statements about their information off the pie graph and found that they were learning and seeing new things.  They made 2 statements each and supported each other to add detail to these.  To finish they confidently made a computer graph.

Preston was able to make this 3D polyhedron.  He was able to successfully count the number of faces and edges.  He became confused when counting the vertices (corners) and counted 12, but he may have thought that was the angles.  He realised when he was shown.  He is learning about the angles of 3D shapes.

Preston created this symmetrical pattern at the top(he gave up coloring the background blue).  He found the tessellating shape more difficult on the bottom and required a bit of support with this.  Eventually he worked out how to tessellate his design but struggled a little coloring it in, in a visual pattern.

Jayden and Preston worked hard to create this 3D geometrical city.  They completed the required expectations, which was to include particular items like cylinders, pyramids, tessellation and symmetry.  They were did a good job as you can see by their finished city.  Well done boys.

Safety Power-point presentation
Over Term 1 and 2 we have looked at different aspects of safety.  Jayden and Preston made a power-point that explained sport safety.  They researched their topic and then designed their own slide-show.  They presented their findings to the class. They did an amazing job standing up confidently in front of the class.
Here is Preston's speech that he presented in July 2016.  Well done Preston!
