Hens at Gore Main

Room 8 has been flat out doing their projects for Adventure World... but so have Room 3!  Room 3 have hatched chickens so that Gore Main School can have hens!  The hen house has been build!  Here are the chicks.... they are very popular at Gore Main!

More Science!!

Room 8 have been really enjoying undertaking a range of science experiments.  One of the recent ones that we did was to investigate the effect of weight and force and speed.  We a plastic milk bottle and then filled it with 200,400, 600 and 800 mls of water.  We made predictions about what would happen to the speed of the bottle as we put it down a zip line.  We found out that the bottles would move more quickly down the zip line as the weight became heavier!

Adventure World Inquiry - Decoration Group

Over the past term a group of girls have been working on a variety of decorations what they can put up in Adventure World.  They have painted, nailed and worked extremely hard!  They started off thinking they wanted to make a tyre couch... but this ended up being very difficult to put together so they then turned it into a planter that is now located over by the hen house.  They made a giant wooden tree and it will be nailed onto a post.  The group is currently still adding details to their 'can bird feeders' which will go up into the trees at the beginning of Term 4.  Unfortunately some of the decorations they have made that were in the trees were pulled down by vandals but that has not deterred the group.  Well done decoration group, your work makes Adventure World look great!  Check out the pictures...

Adventure World Inquiry - Obstacle Course Group

Over the past term a group of Room 8 students have been investigating the possibly of having an 'Obstacle Course' located up in Adventure World.  Their learning had to change after they contacted the Gore District Council and found out that they couldn't make any type of fixed playground equipment without a builder's permit due to health and safety guidelines.  They decided to build simple obstacles with materials that could be easily sourced.  They used wood and tyres.  One of their obstacles is a rope net obstacle and they are still working on this.  After they built the obstacle course there were many keen students using it, which was great.  The group painted all of their own obstacles and did all of the manual labor with NO support from adults.  Well done guys!  Here are some pictures...

Adventure World Inquiry - Maze Group

Over the past term a group of girls have been investigating the possibly of having a hedge maze located up in Adventure World.  Their learning took many twists and turns as they realised that they needed money in order to purchase hedge plants as it would take quite a while to grow them from seed.  There were many phone calls and emails to Pukerau Nurseries trying to source the correct type of plants.  The girls organised their own raffle and provided the prizes for it.  They made about $100 from the raffle and the purchased their hedge plants for $95 all up.  They organised where they wanted to plant their maze and the design of it.  The hedge maze is now being protected with tyres as it grows up in size.  Well done girls, your hedge maze is a success!  Here are some pictures!

Adventure World Inquiry - Trench Group

Over the past term a group of boys have been investigating the possibly of having a real 'trench' located up in Adventure World.  Their learning took many twists and turns as they realised that the drainage in Adventure World would cause a problem with pooling water in their trench.  They wrote to a plumber and discovered it would be quite extensive to sort this problem out.  The group came to the realization that a trench on top of the ground would meet the safety requirements needed.  They organised their materials, some dirt to be brought in and then set to work.  Their trench is still very much a work in progress as they happily add new walls, flooring, plants and mounds of turf.  Well done 'Trench Group, you have done well!  Check out the pictures...
