Chicken visit

On Friday the 5th of August we had some very special visitors into Room 8, courtesy of Hanna and Jessie.  They both brought in their chickens for the day!  It was so great!   There were 3 hens and 1 rooster.  The new additions to the class settled in very nicely and the rooster even tried to roost in among some maths books!

We had many classes visit us to see our new classmates.  Room 3 were particularly interested in our guests because they are currently in the process of researching the viability of chickens at Gore Main School!  Room 3 had lots of questions for Hanna and Jessie, which they were easily able to answer.  Hanna and Jessie also wrote a report on caring for chickens for Room 3.

Everybody thoroughly enjoyed having the chickens in Room 8 for the day.  They were very well-behaved and did well to cope with the students looking at them and wanting to pat them.  Awesome Hanna and Jessie, what a great idea you both came up with.

Farewell to Mr McWhiter

Mr McWhirter has been on the Board of Trustees as Chairman for a very long time at Gore Main School!  He has done a wonderful job working behind the scenes to ensure the school performs to the best of its ability.  Recently we held a small ceremony to farewell Mr McWhirter and to plant a remembrance tree in the school paddock to symbolize all the hard work that has been achieved over the years.  It was Mr McWhirter's idea to open and utilize the school as a recreation area within the school.  The Enviro-kids from Room 8 wrote a small speech to thank Mr McWhirter.  Check out the video below of these clever speakers.  See you around Mr McWhirter!  At least we still have Mrs McWhirter!

Last day hot chips

Here we are eating some hot chips on the last day of Term 2!  We have worked so hard over Term 2!

Marshmellow volume

On the last day for Term 2 we had a bit of fun with some marshmellows!  We wanted to see what volume of marshmellows we could fit into our mouth!  Most students got around 8 marshmellows3  in their mouth!  Some tried to fit more but ended up spitting them out because it was just too much!

Video clips from the Invercargill Trip

Here are some videos from the recent trip to Invercargill.  The students enjoyed mucking around at Queen's Park.

Kakapo Trip

Recently Room 8 and some other classes from Gore Main went to Invercargill to see Kakapo chicks that were being nurtured through the DEPT of Conservation.  It was a unique opportunity to see these highly endangered native birds of New Zealand.  We decided to make a day of it and visit Queen's Park and the Invercargill Public Library as well.  It was an amazing day!
We all enjoyed it immensely.  Thank you to the band of parent helpers that took groups around Queen's Park and looked after the student's well-being whilst out on a class trip.  Unfortunately the Kakapo chicks were asleep when it was Room 8's turn to view them.  We didn't really see much other than a small ball of green feathers, but nevertheless we enjoyed it anyway!  Here are some pictures from the trip!
